Your Industry Language
Don’t assume that everyone understands your industry-specific language. Look through your website and highlight terms that are not common outside your industry. Replace them with more common explanations.
Websites & Flash
Websites built with complicated Flash-based animation will kill your page ranking on search engines. Flash-based animation does little to improve a visitors experience, plus it hurts search engine optimization. If you’re not sure, remove the animation for a set period of time and compare your traffic results.
Thinking Ahead
Don’t go into a relationship without knowing what you may need down the road. Ask the designer what file format you will receive for your print project. Most designers only supply a press-ready PDF unless the client specifies that they want all native files and is included in the prices of the project (it would be like going to a gourmet restaurant and asking the chef for a copy of his recipe free of charge). For instance, what happens if you need a photo used in a brochure for a PowerPoint presentation? Unless you have asked and paid for the native files of the brochure, you’re probably not going to get that photo without an additional charge.
